Biko Khaya

Khaya Biko (born 1944) was the elder brother of Black Consciousness Movement leader Steve Biko and an early influence on his political awakening. A student activist and member of the Pan Africanist Congress, Khaya was arrested at Lovedale College in 1963 on suspicion of links to Poqo. The incident led to Steve's expulsion and, by Steve's own account, first stirred his political consciousness.
