The history of Zinkwazi Beach is fascinating, it was the time of the early Iron Age, about 300 – 1000 AD. "A place of human culture, characterized by the use of iron tools and weapons. No roads or tracks marred the landscape, the wheel was an unknown to the inhabitants and only trample- paths by man and beast criss-crossed this area!"

Deeply involved in the Anglo-Boer War, Newcastle today is the largest town in northern KwaZulu Natal and shares its name with a further 27 sister Newcastle's Worldwide!

Granger Bay was named after a Captain Robert Granger, a merchant and owner of five ships. In 1647 a ship named the Haarlem ran aground at what was later named Granger Bay and 62 VOC sailors survived there for a year from the available resources and from the soil. Their home was a fort made from the ship's salvage.

The Ghwarrie Poort is located on the tarred N9 between the Karoo towns of Uniondale in the south and Willowmore in the north. The Poort is 14 kms long and falls 286 meters starting from a summit height of 1024m. The road is in excellent condition and is suitable for all vehicles.
