The U.S. Consulate General in Cape Town serves as a branch of the U.S. Diplomatic Mission to South Africa. It is located in the suburb of Westlake. They are the Mission’s representatives to the people in the Eastern Cape, Northern, and Western Cape Provinces, as well as the business and academic communities there!
The Consulate General provides U.S. consular services in these Provinces, including help for Americans with emergencies and documents like passports and reports of birth. They also assist non-Americans with non-immigrant visas. Additionally, they manage programs to strengthen small- and medium-sized enterprises, create employment, improve learning and job skills, promote basic education, combat gender-based violence, and promote HIV/AIDS care, prevention, and treatment.

The U.S. Consulate Johannesburg processes Non-Immigrant Visa services for Gauteng, Free State, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and North-West Provinces and processes Immigrant Visa services for all provinces and for applicants from: Namibia; Botswana; Lesotho; Eswatini; Mozambique; Zimbabwe; Mauritius and Seychelles. All immigrant and fiancé(e) visas for South Africa are centralized and processed through the U.S. Consulate General in Johannesburg. The Cape Town consulate primarily handles non-immigrant visas and American citizen services. The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria does not provide any visa services. Applicants for visas in the Pretoria area should apply at the U.S. Consulate Johannesburg.
