Strandfontein is a pretty little coastal village situated on the West Coast at the mouth of the Olifants River.  Strandfontein’s high cliffs provide excellent views across the sea ideal for spotting whales during season from the late winter into early spring.

Strandfontein was initially a nature reserve area. Later in 1976, under the struggle of apartheid government, houses were developed for the middle income bracket families. With the raw, ruff and underdeveloped land, they started to construct roads and houses. The first sets of houses were completed in 1977. Some being single story while others were free-standing houses, but the majority were semi-detached houses.
This area is magnificent in its beauty with white sandy beaches and rocky cliffs. Becoming quite the tourist destination and stop-over for those travelling on the N7 to and from Namibia, Strandfontein is growing in popularity. August and September is wildflower season bringing visitors from far and wide as the area becomes a hive of activity all to see the breathtaking vision of colour.

Peace, tranquillity and relaxation is the deciding factor in this destination, however for those who seek adventure there is paragliding, microlighting and gyrocopter trips.
