Khayelitsha becomes the first township in the Western Cape to confirm a COVID-19 case

On 29 March 2020, Khayelitsha township in Cape Town, Western Cape was the first township to confirm positive case of Covid- 19 virus. The Western Cape province was the second province in the number of infected cases lead by Gauteng province. Premier of the Western Cape Alan Winde’s confirmed more than 300 covid-19 positive cases in the province.

Stella Nyanzi

Dr Stella Nyanzi was born in Masaka District, Buganda Kingdom in Uganda on 16 June 1974. Also known as Nnalongo (which means mother of twins), she is a medical anthropologist who has written about sexuality, HIV/AIDS and women’s health. She is also a political activist who campaigns for women and girls rights, as well as the rights of LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, asexual and queer) people.
