New Prime Minister P.W. Botha appoints cabinet ministers

On becoming prime minister after the resignation of B.J. Vorster, P.W. Botha made some changes in the allocation of portfolios in his cabinet. He retained the post of minister of defence. Louis le Grange was appointed to the portfolio of minister of public works and tourism, while the newly created post of deputy minister for defence and national security was given to the MP for Bloemfontein West and Chairman of the National Party (NP) defence group in Parliament, Kobie Coetzee.
