University of Stellenbosch in a historic move

The University of Stellenbosch announced that it was to open its doors to Black, Coloured and Asian students for all post-graduate degrees and would also accept non-White undergraduates for courses not offered at their own universities. In spite of the move being hailed as a progressive one, critics were of the view that the move was meant only for those who could speak Afrikaans, as the university used mainly Afrikaans as medium of instruction.
