This Day in History: June 13, 1986
Additional Date: June 13, 1986
Solomon Mangopane Maowasha and Alex Mashaba Matsepane were found guilty of burning Solomon Maake and his son in September 1985, after they were accused of being police informers. The court found that Mr Maowasha was the leader of the youth group who took the two victims to the graveyard to be stoned. He also ordered Mr Jack Rampjapedi who feared for his life to pour the two victims with petrol and set them alight. Mr Justice F H Grosskopf found no justification for their act and they were sentenced to death.
