When her underground cell was arrested and detained, Phyllis Naidoo escaped to Lesotho along a new route established by Omar Badsha, Richard (Rick) Turner and others. In Lesotho she joined the African National Congress (ANC) and was involved in providing for children who had left South Africa, assisting members of the South African Communist Party (SACP) and ANC to escape from South Africa, and supporting them in Lesotho. She returned to South Africa in 1990.
