Humphrey Mpumele Ndlovu was born at Emzweni in the Qamu Tribal Authority at Msinga, Natal (now KwaZulu-Natal). He joined the Inkatha Cultural Liberation Movement, now Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), in 1976. He was the Party’s West Rand Regional Chairperson from 1991 to 2000. Ndlovu was very active in Soweto during the 1990s. He was a strong proponent of tribalism and believed that the Zulu Nation should reign in South Africa. In 1999, he suffered a stroke, which meant he could no longer take part in active politics.  He died in hospital on 3 September 2004 after a short illness.
