Elvis Ramoloyi was beaten to death by a mob after a confrontation with two men who got upset when he reversed his car too close to where they were standing. When the confrontation got out of hand, Ramoloyi, who was travelling with his brother, produced a gun and fired two warning shots into the air. Unfortunately the two bullets injured two bystanders, aggravating the other bystanders. The angry crowd turned on Ramoloyi, beating and stoning him to death. His brother managed to escape on foot as they burned the car they were travelling in. Mob justice is a common occurrence in the Diepsloot area. Often, innocent people lose their lives being mistaken for criminals.
