At the young age of 12 years, 10 months and 25 days, Karen Muir from Kimberley became the youngest world record holder in any sport in the history of organised sport.[i] Karen Muir broke the 110 yards backstroke world record at the British amateur swimming championships in Blackpool on 10 August 1965.[ii]
