Jailed ANC leader Nelson Mandela sends message to Mangosuthu Buthelezi

On 2 June, Nelson Mandela sent a message through his attorney after he had read media reports that Chief Mangosuthu Buthelezi proposed to visit him in Pollsmoor Prison. The telegram said Nelson Mandela believed that the best time for them to meet was after he and his colleagues had been released from Jail. He also sent his greetings to Buthelezi thanking him for his efforts to set him free. Buthelezi read the telegram to KwaZulu -Natal legislative Assembly, which advised him to consider asking for government’s permission for visiting Nelson Mandela in prison.
