Former South African State President F.W. de Klerk married Marike Willemse on this date. The couple met at the University of Potchefstroom where they were both students and where De Klerk graduated with a law degree in 1958. They had two sons and one daughter. Their marriage ended in 1998 in a divorce, after which De Klerk married Elita Giorgiades.
