Ruth Elizabeth Arndt

Arndt was born in Canada in 1890 and died in South Africa in 1982. In South Africa, Arndt set about informing the government on the importance of pre-school education. She served as honorary secretary, chairperson, president and honorary life president of the Nursery School Association of South Africa (later renamed the Southern African Association for Early Childhood Educare). It is partly thanks to her that there are so many pre-schools across South Africa catering for children of all races today.
