There is something about Jeffreys Bay that makes me want to visit the Town. Located in the Eastern Cape, It is bordered by Western Cape Province to the West, Northern Cape Province to the North West, Free State Province and Lesotho to the North. KwaZulu-Natal Province to the North East, and the Indian Ocean to the South East and South. The Eastern portion of the former Griqualand East (surrounding the Umzimkulu River) which is now an exclave- (a portion of territory of one state completely surrounded by territory of another.) of the Eastern Cape. This is located in Southern KwaZulu-Natal. Eastern Cape which was part of former, Cape of Good Hope Province until 1994. Bisho is the Provincial Capital, of the Eastern Cape.

The Town is named after: 'Captain Jeffreys', who sailed his cargo ship on the East Coast of South Africa on trading expeditions in the 1840’s. It was during one of his trips that an epidemic of scurvy broke aboard, forcing him to land his vessel in what he believed to be a place filled with opportunities. Soon after he and the others arrived, he built a 'primitive' Port on what is now the main Beach. Captain Jeffreys also built his first House, a double-story Mansion that people called: the “White House”, in 1850. His family became the first White family to settle in the Town, and by 1852 Captain Jeffrey bought erf numbers 1,2,9 and 10 for a total of 79 British pounds.
History aside, Jeffreys Bay is home to some of the greatest traveler sites and offers a good place to unwind from the fast paced: 'City Life'.
A must do activity is a horse beach ride at Papiesfontein, just 10 km outside Jeffreys Bay and 70 km from Port Elizabeth, between the Gamtoos and Kabeljous Rivers. Refer to (FURTHER READING)
While on horseback, one gets to gallop along a 13 km circular route. The trail takes about two hours to complete, through a scenic fynbos Coastal vegetation, towards the Gamtoos River overlooking the dunes along a 6 km stretch of deserted Beach. A number of Beaches are bound to keep anyone entertained with Kitesurfing, Surfing and Windsurfing. "Or simply soaking up the fantastic weather of one of South Africa's Towns!
