Vincent “Toivo” Tshabalala was born in Bethal in Mpumalanga on 15 August 1964 where he also grew up. Tshabalala became politically influenced at a young age by the Bethal Trial in 1977 where a number of Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) members were accused. After completing his primary school he went to Minerva High School in Alexandra Township in the early 1980’s.
