This dwelling was designed and built in about 1899 by A Westenberg and C van der Made, both engineers employed by the Netherelands-South Africa Railway Co, for their own occupation. It is one of the last remaining examples of the mansions that characterised this part of Pretoria during the latter years of the 19th century. It was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 17 October 1980.
