Nxumalo was born in Magud, Natal in 1952. He is a self-taught sculptor who has participated in numerous group exhibitions.
He won an award in 1972 at the Bulawayo Art Exhibition, Zimbabwe, and currently works and teaches art in Empangeni.
Nxumalo's work is represented in the Durban Art Gallery collection and in private collections in South Africa.
