This was one of the earliest Churches established in Polokwane (then Pietersburg). Building began in 1895, and the church was completed in 1897. Prior to completion occasional services were held by visiting priests in the local Court House. This Roman Catholic Church situated in Biccard street. The Sacred Heart Cathedral in Biccard Street is the seat of the Bishop, (A bishop is an ordained, consecrated, or appointed member of the Christian Clergy who is generally entrusted with a position of authority and oversight.) The current Bishop is Jeremiah Madimetja Masela. This Parish has a total number of 86,268 Parishioners, which is roughly 3.5% of the Population of Polokwane.
