It was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 23 December 1983. Donkin Street is a famous tourist street located in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. The street is lined with the Donkin Street Row Houses - stunning Victorian style houses built between 1860 and 1880, lending it a completely unique charm. It consists of five dwellings in Donkin Street, facing on to the Donkin Reserve, one at 14 Constitution Street and two at 8 and 10 Whitlock Street. Donkin Street in its entirety was declared a national monument in 1967 due to its architectural significance. Anybody visiting Port Elizabeth cannot miss a visit to Donkin Street, and the neighbouring Donkin Reserve.
