
It's a very old, single story Hospital divided into probably about 40 Buildings. The place has been trashed by vagrants, even the flooring of some of the buildings has been stolen. Toilets have been smashed, baths have been stolen, it is really bad! This was a State Hospital for the physically disabled. It is now permanently CLOSED and very unsafe to visit with valuables.
Tembisa is a large Township situated to the North of Kempton Park, under the Ekurhuleni Municipality.
The name being of Zulu origin derived from 'insquthu'- meaning a flat-topped vessel, descriptive of a nearby hill from which the village takes its name. It is 53 km East of Dundee. Most of the population is Black , 97.89% and therefore the first language is Zulu. The women are the predominant gender, 57.29%, because like in most villages of South Africa, the men venture off to cities, to find work and support their family. The Population in 2011 was 5453, over an area of 5.31km squared.
Situated on corner Henshall Street and Samora Machel Drive/N4, it is hard to imagine that what is today known as the Orion Hotel Promenade, used to be the town hall of Nelspruit. The town started out as a prime grazing area, for the cattle.
