Apartheid was a programme established by the white dominated National Party (NP) in 1948 to consolidate the process of racial segregation in South Africa. The apartheid state prided itself on being an economic power globally. However, the discriminatory laws and senseless murders of thousands of innocent non-whites in South Africa attracted unwanted international attention that hindered their progress to becoming an even larger economic power in the world economy.

Centurion is an area with 236,580 inhabitants situated between Pretoria and Johannesburg. The area’s proximity to Midrand and Pretoria makes it a popular suburban area which continues to grow, owing to the relocation of businesses, which has resulted in the City limits expanding. Its location makes it the perfect Residential District for business-oriented people and families.

The Transvaal is a historical region and former Province of South Africa, located North of the Vaal River, that existed from 1910 to 1994. It's now part of the Provinces of: 'Gauteng; Limpopo; Mpumalanga and North West'.

At the end of a road eight kilometres from the Village of Hilton, on an Escarpment above Pietermaritzburg, are large wrought-iron gates! Behind these is: 'Hilton College'.

On 3 March 1874, the Pietermaritzburg Botanical Garden was founded. It was run by the newly formed Pietermaritzburg Botanical Society until 1969, when it was taken over by the: 'National Botanic Gardens of South Africa'. In 1991, the Botanical Research Institute and the National Botanical Gardens combined to form the National Botanical Institute. The NBI is now the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) – the present custodians of the garden.

The Thousand Hills experience is to KwaZulu-Natal what the Garden Route is to the Cape. It is an area of great peace and tranquillity, affirmed by the fact that, many artists have taken up residence in the region.

The Msunduzi River flows through the center of Pietermaritzburg, the Capital of KwaZulu-Natal and is the namesake of the Msunduzi Municipality, where the City is located.
