The African National Congress in the Northern Cape will be launching the Luthuli Volunteer Corps; thousands of volunteers of the ANC dressed in gold overalls will be launched and unveiled across the regions of the province. In total, across the province, the ANC will be having 30 000 thousand volunteers working earnestly amongst our people to ensure that the movement secures a 70% landslide victory in the 2014 elections in the Northern Cape.

We have already started with the preparatory work to ensure that our volunteers, from structures of the Mass Democratic Movement under the leadership of the ANC are ready to hit the ground running. The important issues that the volunteers need to deal with are ensuring that all our people have Identity Documents (which are also critical for access to many services provided by government) and registration, especially of new voters with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

Rebuilding a Strong Youth Movement

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Northern Cape has noted and welcomed the decision of the National Task Team (NTT) of the ANC to disband the Provincial Executive of the Youth League in the province and three of its regions. The ANC accepts that the league is an autonomous structure of the ANC administratively and therefore may take such decisions to self - correct and address whatever challenges they may have identified after introspection.

We, through our structures, will support the effort to strengthen the Youth League and build a strong Progressive Youth Alliance that champions the interests of young people. The action by the NTT is an opportunity for young revolutionary democrats to join the ANC through its league and be constructors of their own destiny.

Thirty Seven (37) Anniversary of June 16

The Month of June this year ushers in the 37 Anniversary of 16 June 1976 when the young people of our country raised against the apartheid regimes undemocratic impositions. The ANC in the Northern Cape wants to applaud the role that different generations of young people have played in our struggle for liberation.

Similarly, we are calling on the young people of today, like the `76 generation, to take up the fights against the challenges facing young people currently. These are challenges of drug abuse, gangsterism, rape and general moral decay which are ravaging our communities.

The month of June offers the young people of our country an opportunity to pause and reflect on the challenges, opportunities and prospects that our democracy offers today. The youth of our country faces development rather than oppressive challenges that the 1976 generation and others faced. The youth must therefore be mobilized to seize the opportunities that the democratic dispensation of our country provides.

Current generations of South Africa have the real prospect of living to see the final erosion of the final vestiges of the apartheid legacy and therefore build a truly non-racial, democratic and prosperous South Africa.
