Albie Sachs and Mary Butcher were among the first white South Africans to join the campaign in Cape Town. The fist signifies strength in unity and the upright thumb signifies optimism that the struggle will succeed. (Sachs served on the South African Constitutional Court Justice from 1994 to 2009.)
