Wayne Richard Ferreira was born on 15 September 1971 in Johannesburg.[i] Wayne Ferreira and his tennis partner, Pietie Norval won a silver medal in the men’s tennis doubles at the Barcelona Olympic Games of 1992.[ii] Wayne reached his best career ranking ever, when he was placed 6th in the world in May 1995.[iii] Ferreira competed in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, reaching the quarterfinals in the single and doubles.[iv] Ferreira currently resides in Lafayette, California in the United States of America.[v] He married an American by the name of Liesl, and the couple shares a son named Marcus William.[vi] Wayne partnered up with fellow tennis star Amanda Coetzer in 2000 to win the Hopman Cup for South Africa.[vii] He has also represented South Africa at the Davis Cup.[viii] Ferreira founded a the Wayne Ferreira Trust Fund, with the main aim of financially supporting young South African tennis players with the travelling costs involved with becoming an up-and-coming professional tennis player.[ix]
