The Voortrekkers are united for the first time and only for a short period, when Gert Maritz moved his own laager and several small laagers scattered over a large area, to Doornkop, Piet Retief's main laager, after the murder of Piet Retief and his men. Piet Uys and Hendrik Potgieter and their followers also congregate at Doornkop.
