This Day in History: 29 October 1998
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) report, which accused prominent leaders from across the political spectrum of human rights violations, was published. The report singled out former president P. W. Botha, minister of Home Affairs Mangosuthu Buthelezi and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela for their transgressions. The ruling African National Congress (ANC) was also blamed in the report. The report further indicated that the primary culprit of the apartheid era was the South African government itself.
