29 October 1990
A 5.7 magnitude earthquake devastated the Northern African country of Algeria on 29 October 1990. It claimed the lives of 30 people. This was a rather mild earthquake compared to others that have ravaged the country before and after this specific one. The latest earthquake to hit the country was in 2012, while the most devastating ever recorded was in 1716 .It measured 7.5 on the Richter Scale and claimed 20 000 lives. Algeria is one of the few earthquake prone countries in Africa.
