Stephen Leroy Appiah is a retired Ghanaian footballer who once captained the Ghanaian national team. Appiah was born in Achimota, Accra on 24 December 1980. He began his soccer career with the local club Hearts of Oak. Initially a striker, he later changed to midfield and was described as an all round box to box midfielder, able to defend, create goals as well as score them.  Appiah captained the squad that represented Ghana in the 2006 World Cup. He was also a member of the squad at the 2010 world cup. He has played for international teams like Italian teams Brescia Calcio and Juventus. The last team he played for before retiring was Serbian team Vojvodina.
