Pius Langa is born

Justice Pius Nkonzo Langa, deputy president of the Constitutional Court and Chancellor of the University of Natal (now KwaZulu Natal) was born in Bushbuck Ridge, Eastern Transvaal (now Mpumalanga). In October 1994, Langa was appointed as Judge of the Constitutional Court of South Africa. He became deputy president of the Court in August 1997. He was appointed Deputy Chief Justice of South Africa in November 2001 and assumed the position of Chief Justice of the Republic of South Africa on 1 June 2005. Langa died 24 July 2013
