A faction of the Bophuthatswana Defence Force, led by Rocky Malebana Metsing, attempts to overthrow the government of Chief Lucas Manyane Mangope, who is held hostage for at least fifteen hours in Kemonosi Stadium.Â Five people die in the coup and counter-coup and one is injured.
