Anton (Anthony) Muziwakhe Lembede who was a teacher, lawyer, politician, and principal architect of Africanism in South Africa, died unexpectedly in Johannesburg at the age of 33. In 1944 Lembede became the first president of the African National Congress Youth League. His ideas about Africanism formed the basis of the political philosophy of the Pan Africanist Congress.
