Christopher Katongo was born on 31 August 1982 in Mufulira, Zambia. After playing for a few local teams, he moved to South Africa and joined Jomo Cosmos Football Club in 2004. In 2007 he moved to the Danish side, Brondby. He later moved to several clubs, including the German club ArminiaBielefeld and Greece’s Skoda Xanthi.
Katongo made his international debut in 2003. He is currently captain of the Zambian national team. Under his leadership, this team won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2012. He is currently the striker for the Chinese side, Henan Construction Football Club. Katongo was awarded the British Broadcasting Corporation’s (BBC) football player of the year award in 2012.
