Choirmaster, educator and singer Mary Eveline Fincken is born

This Day in History: 27 April 1882
Singer Mary Eveline Fincken , also known as choirmaster, teacher of singing and educationist was born in Hoyland, Yorkshire, England. She came to South Africa in 1908 for health reasons. Fincken was one of the first staff members at the South African College of Music in Cape Town. On her death in 1955 she left her collection of music to the Black section of the Cape Town Public Library.
