The leader of the right-wing political organisation, Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (AWB), Eugene Terre'Blanche, and nine of his followers were arrested and charged with public violence. The arrest took place after a long police investigation. Terre'Blanche and his followers clashed with police and interrupted a meeting addressed by the then state president F.W. De Klerk at the Ventersdorp city hall on 9 August 1991. Three people were reported to have been killed outside the hall.
