Ange-Félix Patassé, President of the Central African Republic is born

Ange-Félix Patassé was the president of the Central African Republic (CAR) from 1993 to 2003. He was the first democratically elected president of CAR. The win saw him touted as the new “democratic star” of CAR, despite him having been one of the key figures during former president, Jean-Bédel Bokassa’s reign of terror.
