American troops a re pulled out of Somalia following a series of gun battles Somali militias under the Command of General Mohammed Farrah Aidid. American troops were sent to Somalia to provide security to humanitarian organisation operating in Somalia. The American military intervention was unusual because the government of Somalia did not request or approve it. However, the American government argued that since the Somali government had collapsed a year earlier and the dire humanitarian situation in Somalia was actually worsening, intervention on humanitarian grounds was actually justifiable with or without the agreement of the Somali government.
