Alexander Kerr, educationist, church leader and the first principal of the South African Native College (now the University of Fort Hare), died in Alice, Eastern Cape. The Dr Alexander Kerr Bursary Fund (now Alexander Kerr Memorial Fund) was started in his memory by the Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa to provide bursaries for Black students.
