Summary

Indians in the indentured diaspora were always vulnerable, in both colonial and postcolonial times. This essay analyses some of the challenges facing South African Indians in the post-apartheid era. Indians constitute a vulnerable ethnic minority in South Africa and have been 'sandwiched' between the economically dominant whites and the African majority.
