Nearly 20 million people participated in the 1994 election in which the African National Congress (ANC) gained an overwhelming victory during the first ever multi-racial general elections in South Africa, started on 27 April 1994. The ANC gained 62.60% while the National Party (NP) gained 20.40% of the votes.
