Open Textbooks for Africa Summit

You have been invited to the first Open Textbook Summit: physics & astronomy

Textbooks prices have skyrocketed globally, but as the rand takes a hit so does the price of textbooks for already overburdened students in South Africa. In April 2014 StatsSA put textbooks inflation at 13.6%.

Globally open licensed textbooks for university students is gaining traction. Faculty from nine colleges and universities across the United States have saved their students an estimated $1.5 million in textbook costs to date by adopting open textbooks, the University of Minnesota’s Open Textbook Network reported in October 2105

The purpose of the summit is to introduce the world of open textbooks and to get started on open licensed South African textbooks in intro physics and astronomy.
