Freedom Part to Host Ken Oosterbroek Legacy Exhibition

Many South Africans have heard of the ‘Bang Bang Club,’ a nickname given to four South African photographers who captured the dying years of apartheid through their camera lenses. The four thrill-seeking cameramen Kevin Carter, Greg Marinovich, Ken Oosterbroek, and João Silva documented the bloody chaos that took place in South African townships in the early 1990s.

In memory of Oosterbroek, who was killed during a firefight between the National Peacekeeping Force and supporters of the African National Congress in Thokoza in 1994, an exhibition will be held at Freedom Park, Pretoria from Wednesday, May 14th.

The Ken Oosterbroek Legacy exhibition which is open to the public at no charge will trace the turmoil around South Africa and will culminate in the inauguration of President Nelson Mandela.

The exhibition will run until Friday, June 6th 2014.
