The Military History Consortium (MHC) will hold its fourth annual conference from 16 to 18 June 2027 at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS) in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The keynote lecture will be delivered by Professor Timothy Stapleton of the University of Calgary.
The organising committee invites panel and individual paper proposals on any aspect of military history and the history of war and conflict in its broadest sense, from ancient to modern times and across the globe, including the interactions between political, economic, social and cultural history and military history. Panels and papers covering periodically and geographically under-represented areas, such as Antiquity, the Medieval period and the Global South, are especially welcomed. A key aim of the MHC is to support early career scholars, and submissions from PhD students and postdoctoral researchers are strongly encouraged.
The MHC connects institutions, academics and students engaged in the study of warfare and military organisations in the past. Its members are Stellenbosch University, Lancaster University, the University of Amsterdam, the University of Calgary, Félix Houphouët-Boigny University Abidjan, ISCTE - University Institute Lisbon, Sciences Po Aix, Sapienza University of Rome, Norwich University, the University of Southern Mississippi, Hong Kong Baptist University and Bahçeşehir University.
