Welcome Cottage, Glencairn- Simonstown

It was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 25 July 1969. Welcome Cottage, Glencairn, Simonstown. This property originally formed part of a loan farm granted to Johannes Henricus Brand in 1911 and, over the years, has been closely associated with the Brand family. Henricus Brand was a member of the Court of Justice; his son Christoffel was the first speaker of the Cape House of Assembly; his grandson Johannes was elected President of the Orange Free State; and his great-grandson was a well-known aviator, Sir Quintin Brand. It was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 27 December 1985.
