Newlands House originally formed part of the historic estate established in 1751 by Governor Ryk Tulbagh. Long Cottage was built as the slave quarters and chicken coop for Newlands House but was subsequently converted to residential functions. It was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 27 December 1985. Now offered is a taste of the early Cape – this home is, a historical monument in a unique setting at the end of a tree-lined driveway, is now a quant B&B!
