Jacob Hendrik Pierneef is one of South Africa’s most well known artists. He was born in Pretoria in 1886 and moved to Holland at the time of the Boer War. He studied there and then returned home to South Africa, which is when his artworks became so prominent in this country.
A collection of his works as well as some of his personal items can be seen at the Pierneef Museum which is his beautifully refurbished, 19th century house.
Pierneef is famous for his fabulous landscape paintings and a trip to see his art is well worth it. While here you can enjoy light refreshments at the in house coffee shop.
It was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 9 March 1979.
