Blinkwater

Like many isolated rural villages, Blinkwater in the Eastern Cape has never had access to any electricity. A plan supported by the United Nation Development Program was developed to create a hybrid mini grid system to provide electricity to the community. (UNDP’s work proves that investing in development makes things possible. By connecting prosperity, climate, energy, nature, resilience, innovation and digitalization. Reaching and exceeding global ambitions, while accelerating progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's). UNDP’s ambition is to help 100 Million people escape persistent multidimensional poverty and vulnerabilities by 2025 through systemic change. Since 2022, UNDP has helped 160 Million people gain access to essential services for health, education, water and others. They've provided direct support to 132 countries.) This will make a huge impact on the lives of the residents of the Village. It will add to their economic opportunity, quality of life, connectivity and communication!

Wind Turbines.
Through strict adherence to quality standards and continuous technological development, 'Kestrel' has made electricity to this Village possible! By using Renewable Energy Turbines which are the most efficient and best-performing wind turbines available. Advanced engineering and robust construction, these are the turbines of choice, both Locally and Internationally. This is because part of 'Kestrel’s' leading technology is the patented PITCH CONTROL. This means the blade pitch angle of the blade changes in high wind speeds and different directions. This feature is critical in high wind speed areas as the blade rotor does not turn when out of the wind as is the case with most fixed blade designs. As the blade pitch angle changes, speed is maintained so that maximum power can continue to be produced. The thrust force on the turbine is also simultaneously reduced. The 'Kestrel' water pumping solution is one of the latest must-have farming tools in South Africa! It is the most cost-effective and versatile option for pumping water in areas where grid electricity is unavailable or unstable, providing efficient water delivery from a wind speed of just 3m/s!
The 'Kestrel' water pumping solution is then powered by wind or a combination of wind and solar. It uses the electricity generated by these renewable energy sources to deliver up to twice the water volume of a traditional mechanical windmills. While mechanical windmills are placed directly above the well, in a design where wind is the preferred resource, the 'Kestrel' water pumping system can be placed where the wind resource is maximised!
