Eric Anthony Abraham was from Wynberg, Cape Town, Western Province (now Western Cape). He was a University of Cape Town graduate who had worked as a correspondent for the South African News Agency. His banning order placed him under house arrest, where he was continuously harassed by unknown persons. The incidents included threatening phone calls. Abraham hired a personal bodyguard for protection. In January 1977 he fled to Botswana where he was given emergency travel documents to travel to England.
