Leinster Hall, 7 Weltevreden Street, Gardens

Leinster Hall was built in the 1850s by Sebastian Hofmeyr on a plot of land that previously formed part of the farm Weltevreden. The outbuildings date from the same period. The building has predominantly Georgian architectural features and is one of the last four remaining historical manor houses in this part of Cape Town. It has an exceptional garden and a fine Victorian verandah. It was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 4 March 1983. Leinster Hall is now home to 'The Stack' – private members club and public brasserie. The illustrious 160-year old lady has been given a second youth, a coiffe and polish that sees her Georgian structure and Victorian fretwork shining. She knows a club of note when she sees one, The Cape Town Club having had its time there, and gracefully survived a serious blaze just after The Stack moved in. She is back, she has a story to tell and a lot longer life to live yet!
